What to Do If You Have Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common complaints among adults in the UK, so if you are suffering in this regard, take heart in the fact that you’re certainly not alone. However, it’s important to make sure you seek treatment and don’t ignore the problem, as it could become quite serious, if left to its own devices.
The causes of back pain range from something as simple as a strain due to poor posture or sedentary lifestyle to excess weight, which results in the weakening of core muscles.
You might be tempted to keep as still as possible, but this can actually make your back pain worse, so don’t lie down and keep still, if you can help it. Try your best to go about your normal daily activities, as staying active will actually help you recover far quicker than bed rest.
If you feel that your pain levels are such that it’s hard for you to carry on normally, you can take painkillers to offer you some relief – and do some stretches and back exercises to reduce your pain, as well.
Regular exercise will help your back to stay healthy and strong, so think about activities like Pilates, swimming and walking, all of which are low impact and can help keep you in good health.
